Where are they Now

From time to time we receive enquiries about various Ambulances asking "Where are they Now?"

We wonder if visitors to this website might be able to help us answer some of these questions.

Enquiries will be acknowledged, advising the enquirer that their request will be publicised on this Where are they Now? page.

If any visitor to our website knows where this Ambulance is now, or has any other information, we would be very grateful if they could advise us so that we can pass on this information.

So, please support this venture which we hope will be of benefit to all - members and non-members alike.

Send your enquiries/answers by email to: general@southambpres.org.uk or by post to the Membership Secretary.

SAPS Logo

This vehicle was used for many years at the Canley factory as the works Ambulance.

Later it was transferred to Banner Lane where it performed the same function. It’s based on the Phase 1A Vanguard but unsure who built the coach built rear section.

This photograph was taken over 20 years ago, still in Standard Motor Company livery.

At that time it was owned by Charlie Jacobs who sadly has passed away. The whereabouts of the Ambulance is now unknown.

A member of Standard Motor Club has a very similar Ambulance that he wishes to restore. The Vanguard components are less of a problem to him, but the owner would like to see the layout of the interior of the vehicle so that his restoration can be as accurate as possible.

It was last known in the Burnham-on-Sea area around 1995. Does anyone know the whereabouts of the Ambulance, WDU 590 today?

If so, please you could send an email to: chairman@southambpres.org.uk. Any clues at all would be most helpful.

Appeal for Information

SAPS has recently been contacted, with a request for information regarding Herbert Lomas bodied Ambulances. If any SAPS member owns a Herbert Lomas bodied vehicle, preserved or for sale, then we would like to hear from you. Please email the chairman at chairman@southambpres.org.uk

Thank You
